bio

Quiara Alegría Hudes is the author of eleven plays, two films, a memoir, and a novel. Her influential stage works include Water By the Spoonful which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and In the Heights which received the Tony Award for Best Musical. Hudes’s memoir, My Broken Language, was One Book, One Philadelphia’s citywide read in her beloved hometown. Her novel The White Hot was shortlisted for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. Hudes has contributed essays to the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Cut, and The Nation. You can find her films Vivo and In the Heights on airplanes and streaming platforms. A daughter of the Puerto Rican diaspora, Hudes now lives in New York.
